"There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course."

Every woman needs a safe place to bleed...a quiet place to scream, and friends to dress her wounds. She needs the support of sistahs who won't cringe at the honest truth, who are willing to walk by her side, who will listen to her stories, and who will offer balm to heal her wounds.

This collection of poignant, true stories honestly reflects the humiliation that countless women experience every day at the hands of people who are supposed to love them. Drawing from the biblical story of Tamar, who was raped and disgraced by her own brother, spiritual truths of hope, healing, and new beginnings are highlighted in every story.

Racism, the Bible, and the American Dream is a frank discussion, from a Christian perspective, of the prevalence of institutional racism in America, and how that racism affects the lives of those who fall victim to it. Throughout history, the Bible has been erroneously used to justify prejudice and discrimination. This misuse of the Bible has been one of the main catalysts in the perpetuation of racism in America. The purpose of this book is threefold: to dispel any misconception of the Bible as a racist book, to encourage those who realize that racism exists in America, but are apathetic towards this realization, to let go of their apathy, and speak out against racism when the opportunity arises, and to redirect those who erroneously use the Bible as a weapon to justify racial hatred. A secondary aim is to enlighten the reader about the seriousness of institutional racism that does exist in America.

“Mothers raise their daughters and love their sons,” is an old adage that has been around in the African-American community for years. With the release of movies like Boyz In The Hood and Menace to Society, this adage has grown in popularity in the African-American community and has often been used to explain the ills facing many young African-American men. For any African-American mother who has heard this adage and believed it true, comes a compelling book of wisdom, inspiration and hope that’s bound to prove differently. Mother to Son is a powerfully written book that shows that mothers do more than love their sons. The author, through a beautifully scripted, heartfelt collection of letters, offers candid advice for her sons on the issues they may face from racism to self-recognition. Although written from a mother to her sons, this book provides timeless wisdom for all. A MUST read for any mother facing the challenge of preparing her sons for, and protecting them from, the society in which they must live.

Janet Jackson emerged from the shadows of an already famous family to become one of the most beloved, recognizable, and influential performers in the world. But at what cost?

From the age of ten, when she made her acting debut on Good Times, Janet was told by Hollywood that she needed to slim down. Her well-meaning brothers, especially fun-loving Michael, teased her relentlessly until she began to believe that who she was wasn’t good enough. It was an idea that no amount of critical acclaim in television and film or, later, international platinum success in music could change. Janet turned to food for comfort and escape. She developed a self-destructive pattern familiar to so many of us: fear and uncertainty led to bad feelings about herself and ultimately depression. The depression led to overeating. And her yo-yoing weight was painfully obvious in the bright lights of the entertainment world.

It has taken Janet most of her adult life to come to terms with who she is. But she has finally broken free of the attitudes that brought her down and has embraced realistic goals that help her eat better, exercise better, feel better, and ultimately be better. This book is about meeting those challenges that face all of us. With candor and courage, Janet shares her painful journey to loving herself. She addresses the crazy rumors that have swirled around her for most of her life, shines an intimate light on her family, and pulls us behind the velvet rope into her unforgettable career. She also shares lessons she has learned through contact with friends and fans and reveals the fitness secrets she has learned from her trainer. Finally, her nutritionist, David Allen, unveils the wholesome, delicious recipes and lifestyle-changing tips that helped Janet get in shape—mind and spirit, heart and soul.

"True You" is a call to tune in to your own fundamental wisdom, to let go of the ugly comparisons, and to understand that who you are, the true you, is more than enough.

One snowy morning, God began to minister to my spirit concerning the wholeness of a woman. After ministering to a young lady the night before, I really began to realize that often we as women become so wrapped up and involved in everyday struggles that we lose who we are and what our purpose is. We become lost in the struggle. God desires to pull out of us what He has invested in us as women. He wants us to know that we are women with a vision, that we are women of wisdom, and we are women that have a purpose. But, most importantly, He wants us to know that we are women of power. This book is dedicated to women that have lost their identity and have a yearning to know who they are.

Brazelton, who works with Rick Warren as director of women's Bible studies at Saddleback Church, has spent years helping women discover their life purpose. She pours her passion into this book, designed to help women find meaning in life. While each chapter focuses on another "stepping stone" in the journey to purpose, there are several overarching themes: every daily task is part of God's purpose; ultimate meaning requires obedience and complete surrender to God, and God has a vision for each woman's life. Brazelton's aim is to get every reader to find this vision, this "personalized way of leading people from emptiness to surrender to significance in Christ." A vision should be big: a "highly amplified life calling and focused destiny." However, Brazelton offers little biblical foundation for the idea that every woman should expected to seek the same kind of vision that Sarah, Deborah or Esther received. Thus, Brazelton may end up creating disillusionment where she hoped to resolve it. However, many readers are sure to enjoy her friendliness and vulnerability, and welcome her advice from years of experience guiding women.

When the enemy slipped into the garden, he robbed Eve and all her daughters of their original purpose, position, and power. But today God is bringing these truths back to women. He is setting His daughters free and showing them their value in His Kingdom! This book explains a woman's power of influence and her role of 'helper.' It also shows how submission actually releases the power of God in a situation. God is restoring the virtues of womanhood, and He is calling women to rise up and influence the eternal destinies of their households, communities, and nations!

Does God use "Verbal Abuse" to shape us up in our walk with Him? Is it possibly a TEST orchestrated by God? Should it be stopped or can it be stopped? Is it a precursor to physical abuse? Does the church condone verbal abuse especially in our personal relationships? Christians around the world are trapped in verbally abusive relationships. Why is this happening? This Christian woman writes about her experience with ?Verbal abuse? and her own search for answers to these questions. Join her in her quest to understand what verbal abuse is and how it has affected her life. This phenomena is not only a Christian problem, but it encompasses any woman (and/or man), that is caught up in this travesty. Everyone who reads this autobiographical account by Lady Day, will be inspired! Then you will clearly understand how and why she is persuaded that "Verbal Abuse" is not a Spiritual Thing!

Written as a straight talk, no chaser retort to the Steve Harvey's runaway bestseller 'Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man,' Shanae Hall's 'Why Do I have To Think Like a Man?' is a fitting resounding response regarding men, sex, relationships and women getting what they really 'reeeally' want. Finally … THE LADIES GET THEIR SAY!

As a Sirius Satellite Radio personality on Jaime Foxx's 'Foxxhole' and a former NFL wife appearing on 'E! True Hollywood Story, Sports Stars, Private Lives,' Shanae Hall doesn't shy away from life's difficult conversations. If it has to be said, Shanae will say it. And this book unequivocally proves the point.

In their own funny, fresh and bold way, Shanae and her co-author and mother Rhonda Frost, tell it like it is and like it most definitely is not as they hilariously chronicle their marriages, their divorces, and their dating of men from the NBA, NFL, and Hollywood stars to everyday rank-and-file guys who seem worthy. From engagingly different intergenerational perspectives, Shanae and Rhonda make it clear that the persistent 'player' mentality in today's men is fashioned, nurtured and created by the very women who hate it so much.

Learn how to network and initiate conversation, amongst other things. Compliments are a great conversation starter as well, especially when they’re sincere. People love to hear good things about themselves. I love it when someone gives me a compliment on my workshop, seminar, suits, shoes, handbag, hairstyle, perfume, etc. It says that someone noticed me. Knowing how these accolades make me feel, I don’t mind giving them freely and often. I want people to feel good about themselves, and it’s a great way for me to begin conversation with them.

When Carol Floch realized that her marriage was about to end and that she was about to join the ranks of moms left to raise their children on their own, she could not stop crying. She mourned her shattered hopes and grieved the loss of the family she had always dreamed of. But mostly, she cried for her children. Into Carol’s grief, regret and fear, God’s Spirit came with a message from Psalm 84: “Build your nest near my altar, and I will be your children’s source of security, protection, provision and blessing. In The Single Mom's Devotional, Carol tells her story and shares with the “sisterhood of single moms” how they can build their family’s “nest” in the protective shadow of God’s presence. Single mothers, whether on their own after a divorce or a husband’s death, will discover how to find true life in Christ and allow the strength of that inner life to be the compass by which they navigate an unpredictable future. Near God’s altar—the cross of Christ—is where single moms will discover life through relinquishment, power through dependence and hope through surrender. Anchored at the foot of the cross, readers will find daily security and hope as they nourish their souls and nurture their children at a place near God’s altar.

If you've ever wondered what the Bible says about slavery, whether or not the Bible condones slavery or not...then this book was written just for you.

Several proponents of slavery during the antebellum years used the Bible to justify the brutal enslavement of blacks. Consequently, many blacks have shunned the Bible over the years and have refused to read it. Since the Bible was often misused to justify the brutality of slavery, a comprehensive investigation of what the Bible really says about slavery is necessary. This book serves that purpose as well as serves as a Christian apologetic.

It's a simple, yet profound question. The answer is either yes or no. Unfortunately, for as many as one in three females and one in five males, the answer is yes. Sexual abuse is not bound by race, economic status, or social class. It strikes every family. Because of the hurt, shame, and embarrassment it brings to families, no one wants to talk about it. Do you think that it hasn't happened in your family? Think again!

Have you or someone you know been sexually promiscuous?
Are you feeling lonely, confused, or depressed and don't know why?
Do you wonder if the person who abused you ever thinks about it?
Do you have problems being intimate with your spouse?

Before you send your child off to another babysitter...
Before you let your child play Hide-and-Seek...
Before you let your child "spend the night" anywhere else...
Before you call another pregnant teen a fast little girl...
Before you say, "My husband would never touch my child..."

The more the better, as long as I don’t let my right hand know what my left one is doing, besides, marriage is not for me”, he responds. What do you do when your risky sexual relationships have caught up with you? What do you do when the relationships don’t satisfy you and your lovers continue to fail you?

Control Unmasked demonstrates the sovereignty of God's love for a young woman who just wanted to be who God created her to be. Sarah Metamorphosis was the imperfect wounded Christian serving God the best way she knew how. After 14 years of divorce, Sarah remarried her ex-husband. This remarriage unmasked Sarah's obsession to control her husband. Sarah's remarriage was almost completely destroyed, because she was unaware that she was carrying a lot of emotional baggage from her past relationships-including her first marriage. Based on a true life story, Reflections of a Quiet Storm is a heart warming story about a woman’s devout faith in God, strength, and courage.

After a near fatal accident, Pauline Bridges, CEO and business owner, has a life-changing experience. God begins to reveal her past. In Born Grown, ordained minister Mary Edwards tells her personal story of struggle and victory with honesty, compassion, and courage. She speaks of how she missed her childhood due to abuse and teen pregnancy. She chronicles a failed first marriage that paved the way for her successful 21 year marriage to Rev. Eddie Edwards, Founder of Joy of Jesus Ministries and the powerful ministry partnership that helped revitalize communities and bring spiritual deliverance. She goes on to sensitively describe his passing and the inspiration that led her to continue and expand her ministry to families, women, writers, and now specifically to widows.

Most importantly, Mary explains, using the example of her own family, the devastating effect of generational curses—and encourages all who labor under them with hope that they can stop the damaging cycle and begin a tradition of generational blessing.

Our New Apartment is Book 2 in the series of Maya's Journey. Mommy and Maya have finally moved to their new apartment from a domestic violence shelter. Maya has finally accepted the fact that she will not be returning home. Children who witness domestic violence need a voice and Katrina offers that voice in her books. She believes that her books give children permission to talk about the violence that they have experienced. The character, Maya allows children to see that their situation is shared. Katrina wants to continually be that "change agent" that breaks the silence in our children.

Pick up any morning newspaper, turn on the local or worldwide news, listen to the conversations of your family, friends, and associates, and you will know that there is a whole lot of shaking going on. People are fearful.

No one wants to be reminded that millions have lost their jobs, billions of dollars have been lost in the stock market. Hundreds of thousands of homes have been foreclosed. Countries are warring against each other. Homicides are happening every minute. And trillions of dollars for our future have been spent. What do we do? Are there options? Indeed, there are. Here's two: First, pick up your Bible and read Hebrews 11 about faith. Then, pick up a copy of Minister Mary Edwards' new book, Faith: Use It or Lose it!

Is This All
By Dora L. Blain
Is this all that life can offer
Is this all.
Is this all that we can hope for
Is this all?
God gave us the answer
A long time ago
And I know this isn't all
This isn't all.
Now that the spirit of God is within me
I'm not a servant of sin no more.
I don't depend on temporal things
My hope's in serving the Lord
This why we fast and pray
For we see a better day
And I know this isn't all
This isn't all.
Now, when life as we know it
Is over
And we see our blessed Lord
He will wipe all our tears away
We'll won't know sorrow any more
Eyes nor ears have heard nor seen
What God's prepared for me
And I know this isn't all
This isn't all.
Is this all that life can offer
Is this all.
Is this all that I can hope for
Is this all?
God gave us the answer
A long time ago
And I know this isn't all,
This isn't all.

The circle of life is like a book,
Waiting to be read by the world.
It displays repetitiveness evils of mankind
Because they do not take heed to the Word.

The past, present and future unfolds from cover to cover,
Giving you action, drama and mystery.
It is a best-selling book of all times.
It is truly relevant today,
Although it’s a part of HIStory.

For centuries man has debated about
The character and truths in this book.
Men have gone to war to defend their interpretations,
Leaving spilled blood like an overflowing brook.

There are characters in this book
Whose roles stick out most to me,
All of them are significant
But there are two with power beyond belief.

Belief is what this book caters to,
In the aspect of what is real.
Will you believe in this book’s lessons
And turn over your life when you kneel?

I know this book is true
For it gives us a glimpse of the past
And prophesize events of our present day.
So tell me, where will you be
When it comes time for Judgment Day?

This lifestyle is not easy to endure,
but we try to make the best out of it.
Day to night I cook and clean for my children I love dearly.
Ridiculed by society,
Persecuted for wanting to be with my children
Looked upon as being the one who did wrong.
But the father decided not to take care of his responsibility.
It is funny what people think is right which is really wrong.
No one knows the melodies of a single mother's song.

We strive to overcome what the statistics say by raising our
kids the right way.
We become every man's worst nightmare
because we are strong and can handle our own.
Independent is a title we carry very well.
Not asking for a helping hand from any man.
Striving to do all we can to be better than we were before.
From school, to work, to being a leader in the church
The roles switch from day to day.
But the Lord gives us strength and makes a way.

By Stylicia Bowden
(Excerpt from Soulseeker - May 23, 2007)

Every now and then, we stumble across an individual who leaves an indelible impression. I’m not referring to the ridiculously rich and famous or the incredibly beautiful and smart. I’m speaking of that person whose passion for life lights the world and threatens to consume everything in its path. Such is the case with Ms. Stylicia Bowden.

Small in stature, standing only 5’2” tall, this giant of grace, walks with confidence, knowing the power within. This power flows from a well of divinely appointed self love buried deep inside that challenges every social, racial and gender barrier others seek to impose. In every poem, through every verse, that power speaks to the soul of every woman, especially to the princess within.

My first recollection of Stylicia was that of a woman who wore her name well. A beautiful, gifted young woman, Stylicia’s unique style tells the world that she’s not afraid to possess her beauty because she knows that it doesn’t possess her. As she walked proudly down the aisle clutching the hands of her daughters and ushering them to their seats, this single mother of two was poised, confident and defiant of anyone who challenged her right to worship. And worship she does; in person and throughout her poems.

The Princess Within: The Soul of A Woman is a treasure. This wonderful collection of poems speaks to the heart from the heart. Every woman will find herself in its pages as Stylicia invites her along her evolution into an exquisite butterfly. Her vulnerability and honesty cause us to trust her with thoughts heretofore we haven’t dared face. And with such courage and integrity, we realize that though somewhat bruised and mistreated, we are still princesses within. Our wings have been clipped but only enough to cause us to grow. We, too, shall emerge from our cocoons as beautiful butterflies. And like Stylicia, we too will leave an indelible mark on our world!

My SISTAHS, transform your mind in the Word of the Lord. Don't let the devil make you think negative. God is in control of everything ~ think positive ~ look for blessings!

I hope that this reading will change your heart and mind. Remember. . . GOD IS POSITIVE!

By Wanda J. Burnside

Too often we forget, when we pray,
that the thing that we prayed about
is now in God’s almighty hands.

Whatever it was that had you
heavy burdened, troubled, worried,
fearful, sick, and going crazy--
like you were about to loose your mind,
is now released into God’s hands.

You cried and prayed about it.
You called on Jesus’ name.
He heard you and saw you.
He was standing there.
He reached out and took
what you no longer could take.

Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior
took it and held it
in His nail pierced hands.

His hands were nailed
and hammered to that old cross.
O, His precious, loving, healing,
strong, and soothing hands.
His blood poured out
and flowed out
for me and you.

With His bloodstain hands,
He lifted up what you released in prayer
to God His Father.
It is now in God’s hands.
He will handle it!

I survived from being born murder before my birth,
And He spare me,
I survived molestation
And he comfort my spirit
I survived rape,
And he strengthens me.
I survived verbal abuse by mankind,
And he was my voice.
I survived physical pain,
And he healed me from the inside out.
I am surviving despite my learning disability
And he reminds me, I am in his image.
I am surviving with stress and depression,
And in his arms, I am at peace.
I am surviving this environment,
And he held me near his bosom.
I survived the disadvantages,
And he meant for me to be a TESTIMONY.

"Streets of Hell: It's Me, But It's Not Me"
by Burnette Parker

Kicked out of the house,
Broke all of the rules.
Naive young woman
In a giant world
Where do I go?
What do I do?
Where will I sleep?

Happy I'm out
of the old haunted house.
No more curfews,
Whippins and punishments.
Free...on my own.
I'm fine I thought.

Not long, up popped someone
I never knew!
He said he was my friend.
He had many faces,
He was at many places.
Because I was looking for love
I thought I never had

So I listened to the enemy.
I did most of the things he said.
I went where he wanted to go,
Doing what he wanted to do instead.

Then he said,
'Take a little drugs
You'll be happier!
Everybody does it.
It won't hurt.'

So, to fit in with others, I did.
I was not on alert.
Crack cocaine was its name,
Blinded me and put me to shame.

A zombie...
I became on the streets of hell.
Lost, misguided, confused and hurt
Now addicted:
Stealing, lying and selling myself.

Who is this person?
She is not me.

She's out of control!
It's me, but it's not me.
I'm in this body!
But, yet, I can't stop it
From doing what it's doing.
This is crazy!

Everything cocain said to do,
I just about did.

Three years went by,
My mind is fried.
Body tried
I want out.
This is not me!
I'm inside.
'Help!' I cried.
'Jesus!' I called.

They say you can do all things...
Help me!
I won't go back!'
I begged Him to save the one inside,
And just like that---
Jesus stepped in
And delivered me from within.

I got a card from you the other day,
I was so stunned by what it had to say.
It spoke of memories,
Many memories that I don’t remember.
But what is it that you remember?
Really, I can’t recall,
How do you remember,
when you weren’t there at all.
I remember some things that you
may not have even thought about.
I remember sitting on buses walking up streets,
begging faces with my eyes
for one of the faces to be yours.
It never was.

I remember lurking around the office door
of a counselor I had never met,
just because she had our same last name.
I wanted to sneak a peek at her, so I could see
if we share the same eyes, nose, or ears,
but we didn’t.
I remember how alone I felt on Mothers Days,
When even my own children couldn’t fill
the void that I thought having them would.
I remember the longing I felt when
I saw or heard about mothers and children loving:
laughing and crying, talking, planning,
living, staying and praying

I remember how I cringed when
I got to the part on all of those medical forms
That asked about what diseases my family is plagued with.
Could it be diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure,
Maybe mental illness, and what about depression?
I always answered no.
I could have answered yes
If they had included abandonment to the list.
So, tell me again Mother, What is it that you remember?
Really, what is it that you recall?
How could you remember anything,
when you weren’t there all.

Just as I Am. Jesus' love is unconditional. He loves us as we are.
Eternity. Get to know Jesus now! Enjoy eternal life later!
Sacrifice. Jesus put self to the side placing the sins of the world on His shoulders.
Utter. With hundreds of onlookers, Jesus died silently on the cross.
Serenity. Trust in Jesus and receive perfect peace.

Life. Jesus gave His life so that we may live.
Integrity. Jesus set standards that we all should follow.
Victory. Jesus carries us through hard times into victory.
Everything. Take everything to God in prayer, He knows and hears all.
Saved. Thank You, Jesus! You didn't have to save us, but You did!

Come fly with me to a place where angelic angels sing.
Jesus is there too! He is ready to take you by the hand.
Abide in His presence. His Word will speak to your heart.
Pull back the curtain of time and linger there,
in a safe place with God.
Let the gentleness of God’s warmth sweep away your fears.
Pause and listen to His small still voice whispering to you,
“No, fear here!”
Don’t be afraid to talk to God—He is so very near.
Stay right there, don’t you move!
Watch all that anxiety be erased.
Arise from that place where despair sets in,
The God of all Comfort has come…
to fill your heart with peace!
