Uniting Women and Teenage Girls to Impact Their World

"There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course."

Twenty-four-year-old Aisha Carlisle has the kind of life most people would envy. She's a lovely and intelligent college graduate, an excellent dancer as well as the owner of A-Carlisle Studio of Dance and Choreography. Aisha's life is surrounded by great friends and a doting father, not to mention she has a dashing bachelor, Chandler Larson, dangling on her arm and in her heart. Aisha is rooted and grounded in her Christian faith. In her hunger to make quick cash, Aisha accepts an offer that she can't refuse from the sultry, sophisticated and intriguing Elisa Santana. Aisha is drawn into a secret society comprised of some of the wealthiest men in the world. The cost Aisha pays for turning against her faith is tremendous. Will the faith she so willingly relinquished free her from the sinful life she has chosen? Will her lust for the forbidden ruin her relationship with the man she loves? Is she too deep into corruption for God to pull her out of the trenches? Sinsatiable is another powerfully gripping tale by Lipsey that delves into real life issues faced by people of faith.

Is This All
By Dora L. Blain

Is this all that life can offer
Is this all.
Is this all that we can hope for
Is this all?
God gave us the answer
A long time ago
And I know this isn't all
This isn't all.

Now that the spirit of God is within me
I'm not a servant of sin no more.
I don't depend on temporal things
My hope's in serving the Lord
This why we fast and pray
For we see a better day
And I know this isn't all
This isn't all.

Now, when life as we know it
Is over
And we see our blessed Lord
He will wipe all our tears away
We'll won't know sorrow any more
Eyes nor ears have heard nor seen
What God's prepared for me
And I know this isn't all
This isn't all.

Is this all that life can offer
Is this all.
Is this all that I can hope for
Is this all?
God gave us the answer
A long time ago
And I know this isn't all,
This isn't all.

THE BOOK
by Angelica "Licaria" White

The circle of life is like a book,
Waiting to be read by the world.
It displays repetitiveness evils of mankind
Because they do not take heed to the Word.

The past, present and future unfolds from cover to cover,
Giving you action, drama and mystery.
It is a best-selling book of all times.
It is truly relevant today,
Although it’s a part of HIStory.

For centuries man has debated about
The character and truths in this book.
Men have gone to war to defend their interpretations,
Leaving spilled blood like an overflowing brook.

There are characters in this book
Whose roles stick out most to me,
All of them are significant
But there are two with power beyond belief.

Belief is what this book caters to,
In the aspect of what is real.
Will you believe in this book’s lessons
And turn over your life when you kneel?

I know this book is true
For it gives us a glimpse of the past
And prophesize events of our present day.
So tell me, where will you be
When it comes time for Judgment Day?

This lifestyle is not easy to endure,
but we try to make the best out of it.
Day to night I cook and clean for my children I love dearly.
Ridiculed by society,
Persecuted for wanting to be with my children
Looked upon as being the one who did wrong.
But the father decided not to take care of his responsibility.
It is funny what people think is right which is really wrong.
No one knows the melodies of a single mother's song.

We strive to overcome what the statistics say by raising our
kids the right way.
We become every man's worst nightmare
because we are strong and can handle our own.
Independent is a title we carry very well.
Not asking for a helping hand from any man.
Striving to do all we can to be better than we were before.
From school, to work, to being a leader in the church
The roles switch from day to day.
But the Lord gives us strength and makes a way.

By Stylicia Bowden
(Excerpt from Soulseeker - May 23, 2007)

Foreword Written By Donna Lee Williams

Every now and then, we stumble across an individual who leaves an indelible impression. I’m not referring to the ridiculously rich and famous or the incredibly beautiful and smart. I’m speaking of that person whose passion for life lights the world and threatens to consume everything in its path. Such is the case with Ms. Stylicia Bowden.

Small in stature, standing only 5’2” tall, this giant of grace, walks with confidence, knowing the power within. This power flows from a well of divinely appointed self love buried deep inside that challenges every social, racial and gender barrier others seek to impose. In every poem, through every verse, that power speaks to the soul of every woman, especially to the princess within.

My first recollection of Stylicia was that of a woman who wore her name well. A beautiful, gifted young woman, Stylicia’s unique style tells the world that she’s not afraid to possess her beauty because she knows that it doesn’t possess her. As she walked proudly down the aisle clutching the hands of her daughters and ushering them to their seats, this single mother of two was poised, confident and defiant of anyone who challenged her right to worship. And worship she does; in person and throughout her poems.

The Princess Within: The Soul of A Woman is a treasure. This wonderful collection of poems speaks to the heart from the heart. Every woman will find herself in its pages as Stylicia invites her along her evolution into an exquisite butterfly. Her vulnerability and honesty cause us to trust her with thoughts heretofore we haven’t dared face. And with such courage and integrity, we realize that though somewhat bruised and mistreated, we are still princesses within. Our wings have been clipped but only enough to cause us to grow. We, too, shall emerge from our cocoons as beautiful butterflies. And like Stylicia, we too will leave an indelible mark on our world!

"Increase" by Stylicia Bowden

There is a famine in the land.
But I hear increase.
There is a famine orchestrated by man.
But I hear increase.
Walls of depression brought on by this political recession.
I hear increase.
Creditors calling you everyday repossession,
Has taken your possessions.
I hear increase.
No food to feed your family,
No money to fill the gas tank from “E.”
I hear increase.
Money stolen from an unidentified predator.
I hear increase.
Eviction notice on your door.
Foreclosure waiting for you right next door.
I hear increase
Poverty spirit tries to encumber you,
It is time to rise up,
And speak increase!
God is going to increase you!
I speak increase.

IT'S IN GOD'S HANDS
By Wanda J. Burnside

Too often we forget, when we pray,
that the thing that we prayed about
is now in God’s almighty hands.

Whatever it was that had you
heavy burdened, troubled, worried,
fearful, sick, and going crazy--
like you were about to loose your mind,
is now released into God’s hands.

You cried and prayed about it.
You called on Jesus’ name.
He heard you and saw you.
He was standing there.
He reached out and took
what you no longer could take.

Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior
took it and held it
in His nail pierced hands.

His hands were nailed
and hammered to that old cross.
O, His precious, loving, healing,
strong, and soothing hands.
His blood poured out
and flowed out
for me and you.

With His bloodstain hands,
He lifted up what you released in prayer
to God His Father.
It is now in God’s hands.
He will handle it!

"I AM IN THE BATTLE"
by Inspire / Markeisha Darden-Crumbley

I am in the battle but I know you are with me,
I am in the battle being attacked by the enemy,
He's in my house, he's in my room, he's even in my heart,
Lord please help me, Release me, Release me from the dark,
I am in the battle and I thought I knew exactly what to do,
But Lord I 've been calling and calling but still I have not heard a response from you.
Where are you my father you said you would always be by my side,
Where are you my father I need you, I need you to be my guide.
I 'm reading my word daily, and I am seeking your face,
I am praying constantly and I am remembering my grace.
But Lord I 've been wounded and my heart is so sad,
I am trying my hardest not to be angry but I am raging mad.
Oh my that's it isn't it, Oh now my eyes can see,
I have not forgiven my enemy so you could not hear me.
Oh father forgive me, please forgive me of my sins,
Help me to let go of the pain and renew my thought life so that I can have peace again.
I am In The Battle!

Love, Inspire/Markeisha Darden-Crumbley

I AM SURVIVING

I survived from being born murder before my birth,
And He spare me,
I survived molestation
And he comfort my spirit
I survived rape,
And he strengthens me.
I survived verbal abuse by mankind,
And he was my voice.
I survived physical pain,
And he healed me from the inside out.
I am surviving despite my learning disability
And he reminds me, I am in his image.
I am surviving with stress and depression,
And in his arms, I am at peace.
I am surviving this environment,
And he held me near his bosom.
I survived the disadvantages,
And he meant for me to be a TESTIMONY.

"Streets of Hell: It's Me, But It's Not Me"
by Burnette Parker

Kicked out of the house,
Broke all of the rules.
Naive young woman
In a giant world
Where do I go?
What do I do?
Where will I sleep?

Happy I'm out
of the old haunted house.
No more curfews,
Whippins and punishments.
Free...on my own.
I'm fine I thought.

Not long, up popped someone
I never knew!
He said he was my friend.
He had many faces,
He was at many places.
Because I was looking for love
I thought I never had

So I listened to the enemy.
I did most of the things he said.
I went where he wanted to go,
Doing what he wanted to do instead.

Then he said,
'Take a little drugs
You'll be happier!
Everybody does it.
It won't hurt.'

So, to fit in with others, I did.
I was not on alert.
Crack cocaine was its name,
Blinded me and put me to shame.

A zombie...
I became on the streets of hell.
Lost, misguided, confused and hurt
Now addicted:
Stealing, lying and selling myself.

Who is this person?
She is not me.

She's out of control!
It's me, but it's not me.
I'm in this body!
But, yet, I can't stop it
From doing what it's doing.
This is crazy!

Everything cocain said to do,
I just about did.

Three years went by,
My mind is fried.
Body tried
I want out.
This is not me!
I'm inside.
'Help!' I cried.
'Jesus!' I called.

They say you can do all things...
Help me!
I won't go back!'
I begged Him to save the one inside,
And just like that---
Jesus stepped in
And delivered me from within.

I got a card from you the other day,
I was so stunned by what it had to say.
It spoke of memories,
Many memories that I don’t remember.
But what is it that you remember?
Really, I can’t recall,
How do you remember,
when you weren’t there at all.
I remember some things that you
may not have even thought about.
I remember sitting on buses walking up streets,
begging faces with my eyes
for one of the faces to be yours.
It never was.

I remember lurking around the office door
of a counselor I had never met,
just because she had our same last name.
I wanted to sneak a peek at her, so I could see
if we share the same eyes, nose, or ears,
but we didn’t.
I remember how alone I felt on Mothers Days,
When even my own children couldn’t fill
the void that I thought having them would.
I remember the longing I felt when
I saw or heard about mothers and children loving:
laughing and crying, talking, planning,
living, staying and praying
TOGETHER.

I remember how I cringed when
I got to the part on all of those medical forms
That asked about what diseases my family is plagued with.
Could it be diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure,
Maybe mental illness, and what about depression?
I always answered no.
I could have answered yes
If they had included abandonment to the list.
So, tell me again Mother, What is it that you remember?
Really, what is it that you recall?
How could you remember anything,
when you weren’t there all.

"JESUS LIVES"
by Rosemarie Wilson

Just as I Am. Jesus' love is unconditional. He loves us as we are.
Eternity. Get to know Jesus now! Enjoy eternal life later!
Sacrifice. Jesus put self to the side placing the sins of the world on His shoulders.
Utter. With hundreds of onlookers, Jesus died silently on the cross.
Serenity. Trust in Jesus and receive perfect peace.

Life. Jesus gave His life so that we may live.
Integrity. Jesus set standards that we all should follow.
Victory. Jesus carries us through hard times into victory.
Everything. Take everything to God in prayer, He knows and hears all.
Saved. Thank You, Jesus! You didn't have to save us, but You did!

"Single, Saved and Having Sex"
by Ty Adams

Ask a single man or woman about the issues that concern or trouble them most and the overwhelming answer will be: relationships and sex. “Why can’t I keep a man, I really don’t want to have sex with him but if I want to keep him, I have too…why do I keep choosing losers, will I ever get married”, she complains. “What’s wrong with having a selection? The more the better, as long as I don’t let my right hand know what my left one is doing, besides, marriage is not for me”, he responds. What do you do when your risky sexual relationships have caught up with you? What do you do when the relationships don’t satisfy you and your lovers continue to fail you?

"Living Inside Out" by Tonie Gatlin

II Cornithians 5:17
Excerpt by Pastor Tonie Gatlin

If you’ve hung around me in recent months you’ve heard me mention how I’ve been living my life inside out. By that, I mean in my fiery trials the Holy Spirit has increased my understanding and spiritual sight about my identity in Christ. I’m not talking about some new age telepathy experience mixed with mystical fictitious lies – absolutely not! I’m talking about Jesus, the truth the only mediator between God and humanity, who rebirths a person from the inside out in his forgiveness and love.

The last eight months I’ve been struggling with a fiery trial called “Bell Palsy” – a paralysis of the facial nerve muscles. When I first saw my droopy disfigured face in the mirror, God tenderly reminded me, “That’s not the real you.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is in Christ [born again], he is a new creation; old things [your old Adam nature] are passed away; behold all things have become new.” Today I’m convinced without a doubt about who God says I am in Christ, regardless of my circumstances and outward appearances. This defining truth has grabbed me, I’ll spend the rest of my life getting to know the real me in Christ. The Word says we’re earthen vessels with a hidden treasure (Jesus) living in us, and our trials help squeeze out the essence of 2 Corinthians 5:17 if we believe.

Our fiery trials burn off our fleshly externals that hold us in bondage from really living in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 is no longer a familiar verse to me – it’s become my reality, joy and hope, along with Romans 8:28-29. If it wasn’t for the grace of God, I would have missed the visitation of 2 Corinthians 5:17. I’m so thankful – entering His throne room has become more personal and meditative. When people ask about this Bell Palsy I testify about the hidden treasure of Jesus Christ healing me from the inside out. God has renewed my purpose in life: to persuade people, especially believers, of who they are in Christ. These last five months our “Free at Last” class witnessed community transformation as we progressively explored liberating truths about our identity in Christ. Ephesians 1:3 says all our spiritual blessings (freedom) are in the heavenlies in Christ – this is your inheritance too as a child of God. You may say, “But, Tonie, I don’t feel free; my life is the pits. I see more curses than blessings; my body is riddled with pain; no one cares or understands me; I’m afraid; I’ve got financial problems; I like doing things myself; I’m just a loner; that’s just the way I am.” Can you relate? Well then, you have tons of reasons to count it all joy (James1:2). Cry out to God right now and let others help you. Beloved, don’t give in or give up. The adversary Satan builds “mental smoke screens” to blind and lead you away from Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4; 11:3). As believers, it’s a matter of belief and perspective – you’ll always live out who you believe you are inside. Remember what Jesus said.. (See Matt. 23:25-26) to those phony religious leaders: “You wash the outside of the cup, but inwardly the cup is dirty.” He called them blind guides. They saw and lived by external works and appearances, ignoring the internal love of Jesus. That’s like drinking from a cup that’s dirty on the inside while the outside is sparkly clean. I call this “playing church.” Many are performing hard waiting passively to experience God in a performance double- mind external way. Only to become tired, sick, shortsighted and forgetting who you are, as a child of God. (2 Peter 1:9). Paul said, “Put no confidence in the flesh (externals)”. There’s nothing good in the flesh, we owe the flesh nothing, it produces nothing but death, and it’s hostile and displeasing to God. (See Phil.3:3; Ro. 7:5; 8:7-8.) We’re new creations in Christ; together let’s seek those things above in the heavenlies where all our spiritual blessings are – in Christ.

The "Sister Girl..." Series
by Reverend Celeste Kelley

This book teaches important methods for dealing with individuals that drink from the well of Hateraide so that it doesn't become addictive in our own lives. More importantly, this book helps us to lean not to our own understanding, but God's. Upon reading these principles, you will be more apt to consider yourself and your surroundings as you grow and enter into your destiny.

Vision, a divine revelation. The important part of preparation as you enter the road to destiny is that you must have vision for your baby once it arrives. You must have a plan, and not plans that are your own, but divine revelations from God as to what He wants you to do with your baby. As you care for and nurture your baby, you may find that, again, many things and people will change in your life. Just as a single parent with a newborn baby, you will have to realize that sometimes people will not baby-sit what the Lord has entrusted into your care. Your vision is yours and yours alone.

"Born Grown"
by Minister Mary Edwards

“Mary Edwards has written a book filled with hope, encouragement, and a plan of action for living a powerful Christian life..."
Carol Kent, Speaker and
Author, When I Lay My Isaac Down

"Born Grown...will remove burdens, destroy yokes, and break generational curses."
Catherine B. Eagan, President and CEO,
The Wealthy Women Kingdom Millionaire Training

"Minister Mary Edwards' life is a testimony of strong faith and the overcoming power of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
Bishop Dr. Frankie H. Young, Senior Pastor of
Hope Evangelical Ministries, Detroit, Michigan

In Born Grown, ordained minister Mary Edwards tells her personal story of struggle and victory with honesty, compassion, and courage. She speaks of how she missed her childhood due to abuse and teen pregnancy. She chronicles a failed first marriage that paved the way for her successful 21 year marriage to Rev. Eddie Edwards, Founder of Joy of Jesus Ministries and the powerful ministry partnership that helped revitalize communities and bring spiritual deliverance. She goes on to sensitively describe his passing and the inspiration that led her to continue and expand her ministry to families, women, writers, and now specifically to widows.

Most importantly, Mary explains, using the example of her own family, the devastating effect of generational curses—and encourages all who labor under them with hope that they can stop the damaging cycle and begin a tradition of generational blessing.

Pick up any morning newspaper, turn on the local or worldwide news, listen to the conversations of your family, friends, and associates, and you will know that there is a whole lot of shaking going on. People are fearful.

No one wants to be reminded that millions have lost their jobs, billions of dollars have been lost in the stock market. Hundreds of thousands of homes have been foreclosed. Countries are warring against each other. Homicides are happening every minute. And trillions of dollars for our future have been spent. What do we do? Are there options? Indeed, there are. Here's two: First, pick up your Bible and read Hebrews 11 about faith. Then, pick up a copy of Minister Mary Edwards' new book, Faith: Use It or Lose it!

"The Enemy Between My Legs"
by Stephanie L. Jones

It's a simple, yet profound question. The answer is either yes or no. Unfortunately, for as many as one in three females and one in five males, the answer is yes. Sexual abuse is not bound by race, economic status, or social class. It strikes every family. Because of the hurt, shame, and embarrassment it brings to families, no one wants to talk about it. Do you think that it hasn't happened in your family? Think again!

Have you or someone you know been sexually promiscuous?
Are you feeling lonely, confused, or depressed and don't know why?
Do you wonder if the person who abused you ever thinks about it?
Do you have problems being intimate with your spouse?

Before you send your child off to another babysitter...
Before you let your child play Hide-and-Seek...
Before you let your child "spend the night" anywhere else...
Before you call another pregnant teen a fast little girl...
Before you say, "My husband would never touch my child..."

ANXIETY FREE WITH GOD
by Ramelle T. Lee

Come fly with me to a place where angelic angels sing.
Jesus is there too! He is ready to take you by the hand.
Abide in His presence. His Word will speak to your heart.
Pull back the curtain of time and linger there,
in a safe place with God.
Let the gentleness of God’s warmth sweep away your fears.
Pause and listen to His small still voice whispering to you,
“No, fear here!”
Don’t be afraid to talk to God—He is so very near.
Stay right there, don’t you move!
Watch all that anxiety be erased.
Arise from that place where despair sets in,
The God of all Comfort has come…
to fill your heart with peace!

"Control Unmasked..."
by Pastor Andra Allen Standberry

Control Unmasked demonstrates the sovereignty of God's love for a young woman who just wanted to be who God created her to be. Sarah Metamorphosis was the imperfect wounded Christian serving God the best way she knew how. After 14 years of divorce, Sarah remarried her ex-husband. This remarriage unmasked Sarah's obsession to control her husband. Sarah's remarriage was almost completely destroyed, because she was unaware that she was carrying a lot of emotional baggage from her past relationships-including her first marriage. "Brown Paper Bag"
by Venus Mason Theus

Venus Mason Theus illuminates the blatant light skin vs. dark skin prejudice and discrimination within the African American community from the time of slavery - and appears in nuances even today. Brown Paper Bag is set, primarily, in the city of Detroit. This story transcends demographic boundaries however; history buffs and African American female baby boomers in particular, will find it a must-read.

Venus is a native of Detroit, Michigan. She earned an Associate of Arts degree in Legal Administration from the University of Detroit-Mercy. Even with the love and support of her immediate family, full time care giving for three elderly loved ones while still raising her daughters was sometimes overwhelming. In order to remain focused and avoid burnout, Venus began journaling.

"I Saw Myself"
by Rhonda Welsh

Rhonda's love affair with writing began when she penned her first poem at eight years old. The poem brought her instant fame at Monica Primary School, but it would be nearly ten years before she wrote seriously again. In the 80's, she wrote and performed with a group in East Lansing and published in Wayne State University’s annual compilation of student work. However, disparaging words from a professor discouraged her from pursuing poetry any further. That changed in late 2003, when she resumed writing after undergoing a series of personal tragedies.

MY FIRST POEM

I love like I love.
I hate like I hate.
It makes no difference what you think of me
for my freedom trails behind me.

Written in Mrs. Pearson's 3rd Grade Class
at Monica Primary School.

Many times in our lives we get caught up in doing things our way. We try to make ourselves happy by controlling our own destiny. We get in the mode of choosing our mates, habits and paths. If you are, or were ever, a church-going woman, then there is a high likelihood that you have experienced some form of male chauvinism or sexism in the church. Some churches are not nearly as sexist and chauvinistic as others, but many churches have some degree of it.
