Featured Service - Hunter House
Hunter House is the brainchild of homeless advocate, author and holistic health champion, Versandra Kennebrew. She is a member of the National Coalition for the Homeless, an elected community service representative for the Community Service Commission of the Detroit Department of Human Services, Spirit of Detroit recipient and she travels around the country speaking to audiences large and small about the issues of homelessness. Hunter House provides safe, supportive and affordable housing for 4-6 young adult ladies age 18 - 20.Kennebrew has developed a life recovery system based on her expertise as a mental health professional and her own homeless experience and recovery. She shares this life changing system with people in transition through group coaching, presentations and her interactive book, journal and audio book (life recovery kit).
When she took a long look at the problem of teen homelessness around her own home in Detroit, MI, she decided that prevention was where her energy was needed most. She hopes Hunter House will become a model that will dramatically reduce the number of homeless teen girls.
Hunter House residents will be mentored by a live-in mentor (college student) who will assist with life skills training and monitoring house rules. Although the referring agencies are responsible for teaching life skills, providing a case worker and placement in school or job training programs for the residents, Hunter House will also offer an entrepreneurship training option.
In addition, residents will be encouraged to maintain their health and well-being through weekly movie nights, a holistic library, group coaching sessions and activities such as walking, yoga and trips to cultural institutions.
Fact - 1 in 3 homeless people are under age 18. Many of those homeless young adults have “aged out” of foster care and did not have a permanent, safe place to live and transition into self-sufficient adults.

Metro Detroit has a tremendous amount of agencies and organizations to help its citizens. But with financial cutbacks due to the poor economy, its very difficult for these agencies & organizations to justify spending precious dollars for advertising that could instead be put to good use helping the clients who seek them out. "Julie's List" helps those agencies get the word out. This was not the original intent of the site but it was a nice little "extra"!

Nicole Cleveland is the oldest of two children. Raised by a teenage single mother, she was determined not to let her circumstances dictate who she would be and how far she would go. Statistics said one thing but she proved them wrong. Molestation, dysfunction, teenage pregnancy, and nonstability were some of the things that she had to face head on. But she took the bull by the horns and ran. She ran like Forest. She kept on running until she found a place of solace.
In 1995 she found the Lord. She always knew there was a void in her life. But never could fill it. Men, clubs, alcohol, drugs none of those things filled that void until she allowed the Lord to take residence in her heart.
She came from the streets into the church, so the church and church folk was an adjustment that took some time to get used to.
She can remember thinking, "I can get this type of treatment in the world, church people are not supposed to act like this." But little did she know that people were people, in the church and outside of the church.
Her favorite saying is, "What the enemy meant for bad, God will turn around and mean for your good." Her life is a living testimony...
She resides in Norfolk, Virginia with her husband and three children (ages 17, 9 & 3).
By profession she is a Fundraiser & Development Manager working for her local Public Broadcasting station. She is also working on two novels.
In 2006 she founded Breathe Again Magazine, an online magazine designed to encourage, uplift and inspire women. Breathe Again Magazine posts real life testimonies of women that have endured, overcome and beat adversity. The bible states that we are overcome by the power of our testimony, but she has found that people are not telling their ¡§real¡¨ testimony to help encourage others so she decided to do it herself.
People are on the verge of giving up all over this world. They are waiting for someone to stand up and say, have been where you are, but this is how I made it.
Thus came, Breathe Again Magazine. In 2007 Breathe Again Magazine was the winner of the "Best Spiritual Testimony Website" by The Black Web Awards.
In 2007 Nicole was a contributing author to a book entitled "Refined By the Fire: Defining Moments of Phenomenal Women" by GMA Publishing.
Nicole is a licensed Minister and also hosts a television pubic affairs program on TBN.
Wife, Mother, Minister, Business Owner, Manager, Motivator, Speaker, Author, Friend, Daughter, Philanthropist, Actress, Publisher, Mentor and Volunteer are a few hats she wears.
She is affiliated with many boards and advisory groups in her community. One affiliation means more to her than any other, and that is her affiliation with God. She is the daughter of the most high God and wants people to know that she is his favorite. (We should all believe that we are his favorite child.)

We are a new organization that will help to heal our hurting children. We will be there for the children who have been abused and neglected. We understand how hard it is to deal with children that carry tons of baggage that they were not designed to carry. We feel just as the Foster Care parent is trained that relatives need to be trained as well to deal with the issues that these children are harboring, which may not come out until years down the road. We will raise money to help the caregiver by taking them on retreats, awarding gift certificates as well as offering activities for the children, awarding college scholarships, camp meetings and much more. We also will present stage plays, short skits and other activities that will inform children that they can overcome abuse. We will also share with them the correct process if they are being abused or know of anyone who is being abused. This is a Christian Ministry which will reach way beyond the church.
