2010 Annual Report
The S.I.S.T.A.H.S. Ministry began in August, 2006 in Michigan and now has five other State Chapters (Massachusetts, New York, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Tennessee). The S.I.S.T.A.H.S. Ministry is a women's ministry whose main objective is to unite women and teenage girls to impact their world, with a specific concentration of helps to victims of domestic violence, at-risk teenage girls and teenage mothers. The S.I.S.T.A.H.S. Ministry also seeks to uplift God through encouraging and edifying women and teenage girls to move forward in the blessings of the Lord. The Ministry seeks to combine the gifts and talents given to women and teenage girls (through the written Word, journalistic gifting, businesses and fellow ministries) and to be a viable Christian women's resource where one can find food for the soul, hope in the difficult times, and network to collaborate with other organizations and ministries to make an impact in the community. As of October, 2008 the enlightening force of God's Word through The SISTAHS Ministry was enlarged internationally into Torino, Italy and Nigeria, Africa and in June, 2009 expanded the international ministry to India under the covering of The Hebron Prayer Church with Pastor Joshua Gona.
The SISTAH Teens Mentoring Initiative held their Second Annual All the Single Ladies Dating & Relationships Workshop. The Workshop Session was facilited by Guest Speaker Ty Adams. This Workshop was attended by over 30 teenagers and single women.
The SISTAHS Ministry International furthered its publication of SISTAH Talk Magazine for its second year and it continues to be a noted online e-magazine. SISTAH Talk was designed as an elegant balance of informative stories and inspiring viewpoints; rich, vivid color with appealing editorial, community resources, and calendar of events, each providing tools for living in a more peaceful and sustainable world. We distribute copies to over 1,000 women and teenage girls through the online community. It is our goal to provide them with a resource guide for 1) community resource; 2) economic resources; and 3) ministry resources, as well as educate them about the various aspects of womanhood.
We hosted the Second Annual SISTAH Teen Mentoring Initiative Bowling Blast, which attendees included over 40 youth from various youth ministries. The funds donated were used for expenses associated with the Third Annual SISTAHS Embracing the Elevation Conference held at The Embassy Suites Southfield-Detroit on August 27-28, 2009. The beneficiaries of the Conference in 2010 included clients of S.A.F.E., W.I.T., Covenant House, Detroit Federation of Youth and Genesis House II. This One-Day Conference was attended by over 50 women and teenage girls.
We continue to be committed to the Domestic Violence Initiative for women and teenage girls and are dedicated to their survival and safety, along with sexual assault and other crimes. All of the women and their children have access to advocacy, information, support and safety planning through resources to which we are strategically connected.
The holistic programming provides an avenue wherein one learns the true value of living with their own reality. When we can teach this lesson at home we are all better off. Teen years for girls today are a period of real danger. Girls entering puberty often face a "crisis in confidence" which makes them vulnerable to risky behavior, and these bad choices can have devastating lifelong consequences. Our programming helps to mentor mentors teenage girls and gives them a chance to survive the risky years.
Assistance for single mothers is possible through the resources of the organizations to which we are connected and provide through a variety of government initiatives and private financial aid programs. We try to offer as much relevant and real information as possible.
We have made strategic alliances witih other non-profit organizations that provide evidence-based programs that end homelessness, promote sobriety and help individuals of all ages to be free and productive members of the community. They offer a range of programs to meet people where they are in life and provide them with the resources and support to become self sufficient. As of October, 2010 we were sought to provide Biblical Guidance Teachings on a weekly basis with the residents in the Women's Recovery Program.
We strive to improve the quality of life for all people in the Metro Detroit and surrounding communities, with particular emphasis on the African American community, through programs that: advocate for positive change, educate to up lift, empower to improve economic conditions and use methods for self-determination.
We were also Supporting Sponsors for Destiny & Purpose Community Outreach for teenage mothers as well as a "Hunter House Champion" for homesless teenage girls, who age out of the foster care program.
